China Electronics Industry Increases Output; Profits Down in 1H05
August 19, 2005
According to information provided by China's State Development and Reform Commission, China's electronics industry had a total output of 1.1 trillion RMB in the first half of 2005, year-on-year growth of 20%. 725.5 billion RMB of the total output was designated for export. Growth of this output was mainly pushed by computer production, which reached a value of 434 billion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%. Of this production 339.5 billion RMB worth of goods was exported, 36.3% year-on-year growth.

However, total profit in the industry only amounted to 33.6 billion RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 5.5%. Reasons for this fall in overall industry profit are a decline in replacement sales of telecom equipment and electronic devices, a drop in prices of Chinese-produced ICs on the international market and price wars among Chinese makers.
